About Remote Construct
Remote Construct is a platform for driving real construction machines over the internet. Members take turns operating equipment on a real worksite from their web browser. The machines are physical, the ground is physical, and the work each operator does stays on the site for the next person to build on.
Remote Construct is a work in progress. What you can drive today is an early version, and it will keep improving as new machines come online and the current one is upgraded.
Our Purpose
Building games are popular because making something with your own hands is satisfying, and a game lets you do that from anywhere. Remote Construct brings that experience to real ground. Members get to operate machinery and shape a real site without owning land or equipment, and without any previous experience. The long-term aim is a worksite that a whole community builds together, one session at a time.
The Founder
Remote Construct was founded by Dylan, a robotics and software developer who has been building machines since childhood and has a long-standing interest in factory and construction games. The idea took shape from a few sources. Diggers Café lets visitors operate RC construction equipment on site. RoadCraft and similar games let players build with heavy machinery. He also wanted a way to work on his own property from his computer. The first version was a single robot built to do jobs outdoors. That robot became the basis for a service anyone can use.
Where We Are Today
A proof-of-concept machine is running on an outdoor site and can be driven from the dashboard. It is a compact four-wheeled vehicle with a work light and a camera the operator can aim and zoom. It can't move dirt yet. It has been through a public launch, a full rebuild and a long period of testing. A beta programme is now open. A small group of testers drives each machine before it is released to everyone and reports what needs to change. Everything you see on the site today is a starting point. Expect rough edges, and expect them to get fixed.
Future Plans
The next machine is what we're working on now. The current one was built fast to find out if driving a real machine over the internet could work without having a substantial delay. The next machine is going to be properly thought through and planned. Full metal body, more ground clearance and possibly suspension, some way to actually move dirt and a much better camera. I want it to be durable and look good.
The other things on the list are the ones you notice while driving. The delay between pressing a key and the machine moving is still too long and I'm working on getting it down. The camera needs to be sharper. The site needs more on it so there's actually something to do. Further out I want more than one machine running at the same time so people can build something together instead of just taking turns.
None of this has a fixed date. Progress on each of these is posted on the news page as it happens.
How We Work
We build in the open. Progress, setbacks and upcoming changes are posted on the news page and on our social channels, and feedback from operators shapes what gets built next. You can apply to the beta programme or join the community on Discord from the dashboard.
